Only 15 hours until we get to sing the world-renowned, critically-acclaimed, and somewhat-annoying Duebber Birthday Song! Unless, of course, I just jinxed the 3rd attempt at Toby's birthday party simply by referencing it... Originally scheduled for December 29, canceled due to my amazing cookie-tossing skills. Rescheduled for January 1, canceled due to Robyn's amazing cookie-tossing skills. Thrice rescheduled for January 5, and nobody in the house is currently vomiting, so I think it's a go.
The kid just wants his cake, ok? Just give him some cake! (Last year, he received cake for the first time at his birthday party, and let's just say he enjoyed it.)
Sidenote: Toby's 2nd annual birthday luncheon will follow the traditional theme of "Toby's Favorite Foods". Last year, the lunch menu included sweet potatoes, rotini with pasta sauce, fruit, green beans, and cheerios. A few weeks ago, Robyn had the following conversation with the boy to try to determine this year's fare:
Robyn: Toby, what do you want to eat for your birthday party this year?
Toby: Cake.
Robyn: Ok... what kind of cake?
Toby: Blue.
Robyn: Blue cake? What kind? (meaning- chocolate or vanilla...)
Toby: (in sign language) Alligator!
Robyn: You want a blue alligator cake for your birthday?
Toby: (nodding in delight) Yes!
He has not forgotten this conversation. So... she's currently in the kitchen putting the finishing touches on what may be the world's first blue alligator cake. Stay tuned...
(This year's menu will include fruit, mixed vegetables, strawberry yogurt, and Kroger-brand Spaghettios. Sorry Grandma Goodridge, I know you aren't the biggest Spaghettio fan, but it's for the kid.)

I want to see photos of the "blue alligator cake". Robyn's gotta be pretty good to pull that one off. Hey, third times a charm, Happy Birthday little big man.!
