Hypothetical situation here. Let's say my hypothetical co-worker named Shawn wasn't getting it done. He wasn't successfully doing what he was hired to do, and management decided to reassign him. Shawn wasn't going to get a paycut, just a change in responsibilty.
Let's say my company's hypothetical executive named Ed and Shawn's hypothetical manager named Cecil wanted to have a chat about Shawn's poor performance. And let's say Shawn decided not to be a part of the conversation. Shawn chose to try to dodge the inevitable bullet.
Let's say chaos ensues, and Shawn winds up grabbing Bob by the neck and throwing him to the ground during a colorful verbal altercation.
In your workplace, security would be called and Shawn would be led to his car. Or maybe the police would be called and Shawn would be hauled away in cuffs in a cruiser with assault charges. Either way, Shawn would be fired with cause and without any sort of severance package.
Not if the MLB Players' Union has anything to say about it.
They say Shawn Chacon was terminated "without just cause". So... what would he had to have done in order to be terminated with just cause? Rape the GM? Pull a gun on the manager?
I guess unions have there place, and they've certainly helped make jobsites safer in many industries, but this is the kind of stuff that blows my mind! Dude admittedly assaulted an executive of the company and is now demanding his full pay through the end of the season??? Seriously?!?!?!
