Softball is Back

I might never hit a double. I'd hate for the opponents to realize that I won't ever be able to hit the ball much beyond the infielders' heads, otherwise they'd play me awful shallow. On the basepaths, God didn't make many people slower than me. Defensively, the best I can claim is that I will make the routine play at least occasionally.

If I'm coaching 3rd base, my on-base teammates better realize that I'm more interested in watching the play than telling them what they should do next. It's not that I am unable to make decisions for them, it's just that the world ceases to exist to me when there's as ball in play. Maybe I'm ADD like that.

But isn't it just the most glorious game that there ever was?

'Twas good to get back on the field again. No one will ever accuse me of being even an average ballplayer, but I doubt there are many hacks who get as much enjoyment out of the game than me.

We're 1-0. Last year, it took us 16 games to win one, so we're way ahead of ourselves. We won with the assistance of the run rule, 20-10, last night. One of my singles was probably as hard as I've ever hit a ball. It felt good. It also felt good to run around the bases a few times, as our team has a few good hitters. It's a good feeling to know that, if I can manage to get myself on base, I'll have a pretty good shot at touching the plate before heading back to the dugout.

Oh, and one more thing... apparently, I'm a lefthanded hitter again. Who knew?

Scott,... Isn’t it great being between the white lines.....while the game is actually going on.....and you are in fair territory....playing defense....or on base....(or even coaching the bases). I was pretty much like you...just tickled to be out there playing. I still remember my last game of soft ball with the
post office team, at Saylor Park, under the lights, and thinking,....hell, I’m really going to miss this action. I’m out here doin’ it..! I was in my late 30's and my time had pasted. It was time to coach my son’s, etc., etc., etc...not to mention the arm was going and the back was aching.....mostly the back. None the less,.. damn I enjoyed that game,....and the comradery. Play Ball.!

Yesterday or so we were looking for an outlet for our frisbee golf ambitions and when I had a hormone attack about the IDIOTIC directions I was being given I pulled over on the side of the road "until i (got) some &^%$ing directions to somewhere". I pulled next to a baseball field just in time to watch number 24 on a very-short-persons baseball team get themselves in a 'pickle'. And everyone knows a 'pickle' is the coolest play you can be involved with during a base/soft ball game. I didn't get hormonal the rest of the day because HEY i got to see a pickle.

This run-on sentence brought to you by typing-one-handed-due-to-laying-down.

oh also number 24 stole third and subsequently stole home as well. This kid was not wasting time on his fellow team mates getting hits.
