Tuesday was good. A sanity day was definitely in order. A day to focus on our marriage and just plain spend some time together. I took the day off work, made breakfast, played with Toby until my mom got home. Then Toby got the afternoon with his Grambee while Robyn and I hit up an antique mall. (I squeezed in an hour at the gym somewhere in there, as well, which is also good for my sanity.)
I never thought I could enjoy antiquing, but I do. I'm not big on "stuff", but it's peaceful, generally quiet time that I get to share with my wife. We walk around, sometimes looking for something specific, other times just spending time. This time, we were specifically looking for a few items for the house, in anticipation of having a houseful of folks Sunday night.
(If you're just tuning in, Andy Gullahorn will be playing a concert in my living room Sunday evening at 7pm. If you want to attend this event, contact me ASAP, as there is only room for a couple more people.)
We didn't find what we were looking for, but that didn't stop us from picking up some fun new/old lamps and other decorative things to hopefully make the house a little more beautiful for Sunday and the future. And, of course, we had a peaceful day together, which was the ultimate goal of a sanity day. You could say that antiquing is somewhat of a tradition for us, I suppose.
Aimee cooperated quite well (she slept quite alot), and Toby got Grambeetime, so everybody wins.
We have our issues, as all relationships do. We are two broken people trying to make it through this crazy life. Days like Tuesday are important. Recharge together. Talk. Relax. Get out of the house together. Look deeply into each other's eyes and encourage. Walk around. Break the routines. Blow a reasonable amount of money on unnecessary things together.
I love my wife so freaking much. And rightly so. She's a daughter of the King. That makes her royalty.
