Words

Like all new parents, Robyn and I have been wondering what Toby's first word would be. He's been saying DADADADADADADADADADA over and over again (at very high decibel levels) for months, but we don't think he necessarily says it to me or about me, so that doesn't count. He says "duggum" and "diggum" and even "uggham" quite alot as well, but since those aren't English words, they don't count. He has somewhat effectively starting using some sign language to communicate with us, but that isn't verbal, so we aren't counting that.

About a week ago, when one of the cats walked past him, he stared at the cat and said "CAH". Robyn and I looked at each other, as if to say "ya think???". He's been consistently saying "CAH" every time he sees one of the little critters. I won't hold him to enunciating the "T". Cah is good enough for me.

So, the answer to the question "What was Toby's first word... Mama or Dada?" is neither. His first word was 'cat'.

For someone who named their cat "dog", I think this is his way of setting you straight!! That's great!
