Timely Reading

We read a lot here at the homestead. Honestly, I feel like all we ever do is read books to Toby. It's pretty much all he wants to do. In addition to the dozens of books that are read to him each day, we read 2 books at bedtime as part of the evening routine.

Every now and then, he chooses his children's bible. Since it's obviously too long to be read in its entirety, I'll open up to the spot we last read and choose a few stories to be the equivalent of 1 "normal"-sized book. Tonight, we read about Jonah, Daniel, Noah, and how Jesus treated his enemies, and then we came to what was to be our last bible story of the night...
God has given special people the power to rule our country. He puts them in charge to help protect us. That means it is important for us to respect God's chosen leaders.

We must respect people like the President, senators, governors, policemen, and judges. If we are rude to these people or if we disobey them, it is just like being rude to God or disobeying Him.

The most important reason to respect and obey God's leaders is because it is the right thing to do. That's why it's important to pray for our leaders and ask God to guide them in their jobs.
I was truly saddened to hear Bush and Cheney booed at the inauguration. If you don't like the way these men governed, fine. But booing them out the door? Cheap.

I didn't vote for Obama, but he's my president, and I very happily respect him. I'm sick and tired of hearing conservatives refer to him as "The Messiah" or to today's inauguration as "The Coronation".

Seems to me that both sides of the political spectrum could use a nice lesson on respect.
