The Heaviest Ceiling Ever

Have I mentioned the damn basement ceiling before? You know, the inch-thick, steel-&-concrete ceiling that can be walked on from above and is impenetrable with any saw I've been able to obtain? No? Well, let me tell you about it...

Nevermind. I've done this before and would hate to be redundant. I'm never redundant.

The pipes still freeze. So, in anticipation of a very cold extended forecast in which we Cincinnatians shan't see temps above 11 degrees for the forseeable future, the ceiling was viciously attacked by my crowbar last night. The goal was to open up a much larger section of the ceiling so that I can at least access them for the inevitable next freeze.

At this point, you should see a theme of "glass half empty" developing with my attitude toward my basement regarding termites and ceilings and pipes:

"Yeah, there's a problem, but it's getting repaired." (months later) "Dang, the problem hasn't been completely fixed, but it's fixable, and there's no way there's any more, I'm sure this won't happen again." (months later) "F*&$!!!!!!!! Not again! There's no way I'm ever going to say 'I'm sure this won't happen again' again."

Last night was a success. While prying and banging and pulling, a significant (read: very heavy) chunk of ceiling came crashing down on me. My shoulder is a little banged up, but old houses require quite a bit of blood and sweat, so... I guess it comes with the territory.

And yes, of course, I found more evidence of termites. But nothing that looks like it needs repair.

we're all bringing heavy equipment (ie. helmets, pick axes and pelmets) to this years GCL draft.

I have had the pleasure of demo of those kinds of ceilings before on more than one house restoration. You have my sympathy!
