I Might Throw Up

The way I currently feel is precisely the reason my wife doesn't watch, read, or listen to the news. That poor girl who died in the SUV... the details... I really think I might throw up. If you must know the details, they're on the Enquirer's website, but I'm in no way encouraging you to read them.

The thing that pisses me off is that this piece of crap woman leaves (or should I say, past tense, left?) her daughter in the vehicle unattended on a regular basis. Last winter, a witness called mama out on it, and mama apologized. Twice in the girl's last 2 days of life, mama left her unattended, and it was clearly no accident. Do I believe she intended to kill her daughter? Absolutely not. But she obviously has a history of doing something the overwhelming majority of responsible parents would never think of.

Regarding the woman in Lincoln Heights convicted of animal cruelty charges in the death of the stray pit bull... she was freed today after serving 2 weeks in jail. At least she didn't serve any more time, although I question her sentence to begin with.

It still doesn't add up to me. Woman with a history of leaving her baby in an unattended vehicle (and being caught and warned NOT to do so!) accidentally kills said baby and receives no official punishment. Woman who has dead stray dog on her property receives 2 weeks in jail on animal cruelty charges. I know, it isn't really that simple, but what more needs to be said?

Our justice system treats the poor and black differently than it treats the rich and white. Whether race or economics is a bigger factor, I'm unsure, but both are factors in my opinion. Rarely do I find myself agreeing with what I hear of Christopher Smitherman or the NAACP, but I'll agree with the premise of what was said today.

Animals....Humans,....Humans ...Animals. How does society decide, how has society changed.
If a persons dog is drowning in a lake, next to a stranger (human) who is also drowning,..who does
the person save??? I would think it to be immoral if they were to save the dog.
But I wonder how many would say "the dog".
Or, how many in the 3rd trimester would say, Ahh, abort the damn kid.
A sad statement for humans....but not as a whole.
