Last month, I told you about my childhood hero's son contacting me over AIM. Tonight, the continuing saga... he contacted me a second time. Apparently, every time Ronny O shows some fire (which, I would think, is often) I get to hear about it. My life is good:
(ID removed): hey man
sduebs: hey
(ID removed): i just got back from my baseball game
sduebs: yeah?
(ID removed): and i just thought id tell you this
(ID removed): my dad got tossed..
sduebs: HAHA
(ID removed): hahaha
sduebs: hilarious
sduebs: you really know how to make my night
(ID removed): the ump kept telling my team to hustle up and stuff, and we were getting killed 10-0 but we scored 2 runs in the 5th so there was no run rule and the ump yelled hustle up and ron wouldnt take that
(ID removed): so he said
(ID removed): DO YOU HAVE A DATE OR SOMETHING
(ID removed): and from then on, he wouldnt shutup
sduebs: great
sduebs: that's awesome
Anyone who has ever played sports knows that, sometimes, the ump can be a chach. So to all you aspiring umpires out there, let the kids play. You get paid plenty to ump an amateur contest. Sure, you have to put up with the occasional overbearing parent living vicariously through their son, but you're doing ok. You don't need to hurry the game. Baseball isn't meant to be a fast-paced sport. It's a nice, slow game. Good things take time. Football is a microwave oven, baseball is a crock pot... ok, enough out of me. I'm done.
Just remember, all ye amateur umpires, always be on your best behavior when Mr. Oester is in the dugout.

you're a beast.
you now have an ongoing relationship with the child of your boyhood idol.
you get this, right?
this is like me getting into a relationship with one of Dan Marino's like 80 kids.
Dan was my boyhood hero. You are, once again, my middle-aged hero.
