High School Small Group

(No more 'Knight Rider template', as there have been too many problems of late. Hopefully Meghyn The Terrific will pimp my blog soon. Until then, a return to simplicity.)

I lead a discipleship group of high school guys on Thursday nights. It is a great group of guys. I'm thankful that some crazy adult named Ed was willing to teach me and hang out with me and a couple of my friends when we were in high school, and now I get to return the favor. Pay It Forward, or, more accurately, obeying God.

Thing is, the group has always met in Delhi. So, for the past 18 months, every Thursday, I get up and drive from home in College Hill due east to work in Oakley, after work drive from Oakley a roundabout southwest to Delhi (as everyone knows you can't get to Delhi from anywhere), then from Delhi to take guys home and eventually return a roundabout northeast home to College Hill. It's a big ugly quasi-trapezoid. (Miami Heights Elementary students... who said "Trap a zoid before it traps you"?) The journey is much worse because I don't get to see Robyn or The Tobe at all on Thursdays.

Finally, this summer, we've decided to split the group. The plan was for my group to meet, conveniently, at my house. That's a lot less driving. All I have to do is drive to work and drive home, and all the guys miraculously show up at my house, right? I'd provide rides home on an ocassional basis. Tonight was the first night of this brilliant plan...

...and of course I spent the evening driving all over Greater Cincinnati west of 75, as no one was able to secure rides. College Hill, to White Oak, to Bridgetown, to Delhi... 4 hours later, back to College Hill.

It's a good thing these are awesome guys. I'm not complaining, tonight was really really really good. I just think it's funny how nothing ever seems to go as planned.

For the "trap a zoid" - was it Mr. Riestenberg? 4th grade? I remember him saying funny stuff like that... but not positive.

DING DING DING DING DING!!! We have a winner!

Sidenote: he introduced me to Sinatra as well. Anytime he called on me, he sang "Doobie, doobie doo..."

I can't say I remember him saying that, but I do remember his saying..."Ingawa Simba Watu". Anyone else? Wonder where he is now?
