The house has hit the market. I've heard many times that "in a hurry" is when a seller loses in real estate. Thankfully, we are in no hurry to move, so there's no reason for us to take the first offer we get. Which is a good thing in such a bad existing home market, even moreso within city limits. We are not looking to buy until we have a buyer for the house we currently own, unless we're buying a property we could "easily afford".
We've spent a little time on the realtor sites, browsing mainly just to see what kind of homes are out there that compare to the one we're selling. Informational browsing, I should call it. Unfortunately, we fell in love with an unavailable house just days after our current house hit the market. Funny how simple browsing can quickly lead to house lust! (Many of our loved ones would probably be thankful, as said unavailable house was in the hood.)
Let's just say, if and when this house sells, we haven't ruled out any neighborhoods in this fine city. There's a lot of hurting people out there, many of them live in "undesirable" places, and it's much harder to love them (or even help them) from a distance. But, Scott, isn't going into "those" parts of town dangerous? Aren't you more likely to get hurt there? Yep, but I don't see anything changing if everyone who is able to move away does so. You don't honestly think you can save the world, do you? Most people that are hurting choose to live that way and you can't help them. I'll respectfully disagree. If we can help somebody, it's worth it. We serve a God who left the 99 in search of the 1. But what about Toby? How dare you raise a family there... OK, you got me. We haven't totally figured this all out yet, and we're not afraid to admit it. We're still asking the tough questions and trying to find the answers.
I know one thing for sure: Robyn and I would never be able to look each other in the eye again if we ignored this burning deep inside us. We are waaaaaaaay too comfortable. We don't deserve to live this fat and happy. How can we justify such a complacent lifestyle when there is so much work to be done? We've made huge strides recently, but we still have a long way to go. Certainly there is a time for relaxing... but we need to convince ourselves of the urgency of the needs of those without hope.
(Sorry if none of this makes sense. It makes sense to me, and it's my blog...)
