Toby Update

It has been a very eventful couple of weeks for The Tobe.
  • He's walking like a champ now. It's pretty wild. He's still a ton faster when he's crawling, but he's getting better on his feet every day.

  • Today, I get home from work to find that Robyn has successfully taught him to identify face parts. Here's the play-by-play...

    "Toby, where's Daddy's nose?"
**Toby grabs Daddy's nose and twists it until Daddy thinks he's about to become noseless.**
    "Toby, where's Daddy's chin?"
**Toby grabs Daddy's chin and sinks fingernails into said chin.**
    "Toby, where are Daddy's eyes?"
**Daddy runs away in fear of certain impending blindness.**

  • Toby now tells Mommy when he's ready for a nap or bedtime. For months and months and months, Robyn has kept bedtime very consistent. Every naptime and nighttime, she uses the same sleepy voice and tells Toby that it's time to put away toys, shut the door, turn off the lights, and go to sleep. Recently, at sleeptimes, he starts to put away his toys on his own, then he crawls over to the bedroom door and shuts it, then he reaches up toward the lightswitch. Then, if I'm in the room, Toby waves bye-bye to Daddy. And then, much easier than ever before, he goes to sleep. It's amazing. And if, by chance, he decides he's tired and he's unable to show these actions as a sleepy sign, he'll put his hand up to his ear like this, which now to us clearly means "tired, ready for sleep."
We're talking huge growing up progress here. Not that I'm in any hurry for him to do so.

Also right now, he clearly prefers his Mommy. At pretty much all times. Which is hard for Daddy, even though Daddy has similar preferences.

And now... some recent pictures...

As mentioned in this post, Toby hugs everything from people to vacuum cleaners. Tobe really misses both of these toys, as they are two of the 7 sucky things that were returned to the store because they don't suck enough.Toby's sign language reportaire is "more" and "tired". Here's a pic of Toby wanting more of something. What he wants more of we aren't always sure, but doesn't he just look like a little man?! Albeit, a little man who looks like a paraplegic due to his legs being shoved into a play table.Frequent Rm113 commenter Favorite Cousin Laura is the sister of Favorite Cousin Marc. Marc contributed to Toby's future desire to have 4x4 vehicles by donating this freaking sweet quad to The Tobe's fleet of vehicles. He now has all sorts of fake construction vehicles and fake school buses and fake trains in said arsenal of transportation options. And finally, Toby's first snow experience. He kept ripping the hood off his head, so Robyn finally just let him suffer from hypothermia. Oh well. He sleeps better when he's sick, anyway...

he is quite the little man - i can't wait to see him walk and hold that melon head of his up at the same time! robyn sounds like she is doing a great job - kudos to the momma guy:) being a mom certainly is not an easy task - just wait until they start talking back!! (and you thought not sleeping was such a BIG deal - just wait.............there's more from where that came from and it only gets better :) ponder that..................................
