Vacation

Rarely does a week go by without an update here at Rm113. I average a little more than a post every other day, so this past week has been an anomaly. As of last Friday at 5pm, I'm on vacation. Not knowing how well The Tobe would travel, we decided to just stick around town. Plus, I was in desperate need of a break, and if the kid didn't handle the road well, there would be no relaxing, and relaxing is the entire point of vacation. Until Monday, there is to be no work (accounting nor church).

Wanting to actually take in some of our fine city, we planned to go to Krohn Conservatory, the Museum Center at Union Terminal, the Freedom Center, take in a play somewhere, grocery shop at Jungle Jim's, and eat at some fun restaurants. Not all of these things were accomplished, but the #1 item on the agenda was to relax, and that has happened (for the most part).

Mike and I worked in an hourlong long distance phone conversation, I grilled some pork, I watched some baseball with dad, I ate lunch with my cousin, I took a couple naps, I ate some Walt's BBQ. Life is good. Being home has been great.

The pace of my daily life is just too dang fast. It's not really too much of any one thing, it's that there are too many demands on my time. This week has made me realize (again) how much I love my wife and my son. Tonight, Robyn asked if I was tired of being around her so much this week. The answer was a concise 'no'. I can't imagine getting tired of her. We'll have good days and bad days, but how could I get tired of being around my favorite person?

Typically, I don't see an awake Toby until I get home from work between 5 and (more often recently) 6 at night. Bedtime is 7:30. Other than weekends, I get to see my son for a whopping 90 minutes per day. This week? All the time! I get his smiles and his kisses and his cuddling and his games and the whole gamut all day long. He seems to like having The Daddy Guy around, and The Mommy Guy seems to like having The Daddy Guy around, and The Daddy Guy sure likes being around, so everybody wins this week. Robyn thinks it's going to be hard on Tobe when I go back to work. I think it's gonna be hard on me.
