Read these quotes about a deceased man and tell me what you think happened: "They're a fine Christian family. It's ironic and it's heartbreaking," a family member said. Another relative called the man "loving, supportive and thoughtful."
Certainly, this man must have been an innocent bystander when something went wrong, right? Maybe he was a victim? Maybe there was a freak accident? Maybe he devoted his life to helping people?
Nope. These nice quotes above describe the man who tied up a classroom full of defenseless young female students and executed them. Wow, that sure sounds like a Christian, loving, supportive and thoughtful thing to do.
Why do people feel the need to defend a dead murderer? Does running to the media and calling him a 'fine Christian' make a difference to anyone, except to once again drag Christ's name through the mud and push the victims' families even farther away from the healing that only a loving God can give? I'm sure the parents of the murdered girls sure were glad to know that the killer was a 'fine Christian'.
Why even talk to the media, knowing that they don't give a rat's rear about anyone's family? They just want a story, and by throwing God's name into a situation that included an angry man shooting little girls from point blank range, this family member gave the reporter exactly what he wanted.
'No comment' would have worked just fine. Or if a comment needed to be made, how about something simple and apologetic, like 'we detest what he did... those little girls didn't deserve what my hell-bound family member did to them, we're very sorry that he did this...'?
